"Are you sure?" The words came out sharper than she intended. The tow truck driver, a mountain of a man with a bored expression, shrugged. "Sign says 'No Parking' on Tuesdays, miss." Tuesday. Had she forgotten a Tuesday? Her heart began to race.

She glared at the sign, her vision blurring at the edges. A cold sweat slicked her palms. Her nails dug into the flesh of her hands. The driver had already gone. Every muscle in her body was tense.

She wanted to scream, to lash out. Instead, she took a deep, shaky breath, fighting the urge to crumble. The thought of the paperwork, the phone calls, the waiting… it was almost too much to bear. She had to get this sorted, but the idea of interacting with anyone was making her head spin.
